Welcome toYauyos Lodge Peru
The Yauyos Lodge Project came upon circa 15 years ago as a small hotel available for the visitors of Cañete Valley, providing some solace and comfort.
It slowly built up its presence in the area, which also developed in us a growing concern for the preservation of the natural resources in the valley, thus our interest in funding projects aimed at providing for the local communities of the North Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve by fostering tourism in the region.
One of our main short-term objectives is training the locals on how to best attend and cater to upcoming visitors, so they can be prepared to host visitors willing to experience vivential tourism in their own places. Another important goal of ours is the conservation of natural water and our forests. In order to achieve this, we are developing an ecological dry baths program, and improving cooking facilities, supported by the German Embassy, aimed at lowering the water consumption, minimizing pollution of the land, and diminishing the use of wood, optimizing its use with better burning stoves. All of these actions seek to bring a better quality of life for the locals, improving hygiene conditions and their health standard, no longer being exposed to harmful exhales from old burning stoves.
Another part of the initiative is the recovery of the historical value of the Pre-Inca terraces, as a way to save water, increase employment, and improve the productivity of the land, thus bringing benefits such as better hay for the livestock, an enhanced production of native tubers and medicinal andean flora which can afterwards be processed, for sale towards other cities and also for export, all of these activities therefore generating extra income for the communities of the Reserve, achieving a better lifestyle, improving their self esteem, and accomplishing real sustainable development.
The pre-Inca ruins and trails, ancient means of transportation for the andean population, are still in use to reach some of the local communities. Addressing this issue is also a very important concern of our project, keeping them clean, recovering their historical and adding to their value throughout the archaeological sites is fundamental for the touristic development of the region, linking the beauty of its lakes, waterfalls, snowed mountains, terraces, restored sites and comfortable hotel facilities. All of these, being very close to the capital Lima, could become an important and frequent destination.
Welcome to the North Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve.
Yauyos Lodge
The Yauyos Lodge is located along the right bank of the Cañete river, 100 miles away from the city of Cañete, at an altitude of 2,900 above sea level and only 77 miles away from the city of Huancayo. During the dry season, from April to December, a sandy beach is available for those who enjoy outdoor activities under the sun.
The weather is quite pleasant although varying according to the season. From December to March sunlight is scarce as it rains almost everyday but the night temperature is never too cold. The sun shines from 8:00 am to 16:00.The beautiful surrounding green landscapes are a sight to behold, extending throughout June, but the temperature does lower notoriously at night.
